Weekly Update : September 12th 2022

Open Evening : Thursday 29th September

On Thursday 29th September we are holding our Open Evening for parents and carers of children in Year 6 who will be applying for a secondary school place in September 2022.

We are very excited that this event will be taking place on site for the first time since 2019.

Our secondary phase will close early on this date with students leaving site at 1:10pm.

Our primary phase will not be closing early.

Absence Procedures

If your child is absent please ensure that you inform us on each day of absence by 9:00am at the latest, including a clear explanation of the reason for absence.

This can be done in one of the following ways:

  • By telephone     call 01536 515644 and choose the option for ‘student absence’
  • By email            email studentabsence@kba.uk
  • Via Arbor           Login to the app and report

Seneca

As students may now have homework on Seneca and/or be using it in lessons or for extra independent work, please be reminded of the following:

  1. Students who have started at KBA this September: Use your school email address and the generic password seneca2020 to log in (you can change this once you are logged in)
  2. For all other students, log-in details will be exactly the same as last year but you will now see your new classes and teachers on Seneca.

Parents can create a ‘linked account’ on Seneca to view student progress. Please use the email address we have stored for you on Arbor and Seneca will automatically link your account to your child (please note this will only work if you are listed as a ‘priority 1 contact’ on Arbor).

For any queries, please contact sophiedale@kba.uk

Equipment essentials

All students in years 7-13 are required to have the following essential pieces of equipment available to them every day:

  • Pencil
  • Black pen
  • Ruler
  • Green pen
  • Highlighter
  • Scientific calculator (only if required for year 12/13)

Tutors will be carrying out regular checks during form time and will communicate with parents/carers where there are concerns about lack of equipment.

It is important that all students are fully equipped to allow them to fully access learning in the classroom.

Please also ensure that your child’s Chrome Book is fully charged in readiness for each school day.

Year 10 Curriculum and Timetable

Year 10 students are now following the curriculum plans for all of their Level 2 courses. Thank you to all parents who have supported their children through this transition process. Please be aware that the deadline for students to make changes to their optional subjects is Friday 23rd September. After this point no changes will be made to student timetables. This has been communicated to students through form time. If students wish to explore a change in one of their optional subjects please ask them to email iainholmes@kba.uk who will be able to discuss this with them.

Year 9 Options Process

Year 9 students will begin the options process in February 2023.

At this point they will receive assemblies from subject staff and find out how they select different courses.

Year 9 parents evening is scheduled for Thursday 1st December 2022 and this will be a good opportunity for you to discuss subjects and suitability with your child’s teachers.

The options evening talk will be on Thursday 23rdFebruary 2023 and forms will be released to students after the event. Full information about all the courses will be available on the academy website from 1st February 2023 and we will communicate this again nearer the time.

Great Big Green Week : Green Fair

A ‘Green Fair’ will be taking place at Geddington Church on Sat 1 October. Please see the flyer below for further information.

Sixth Form Bursary

All Sixth Form students are entitled to apply for money that can be spent to help with studying. Some students, like those in receipt of certain benefits or with especially challenging circumstance, can receive up to £1200. Most students can apply for up to £300. The money can be used to buy technical equipment, textbooks, stationary, for travel to University open day and in many other ways to support learning.

We strongly encourage all students and families to apply for their share of this money. Students should collect an application from the Sixth Form office or families can email nickhall@kba.uk for a copy of the form.
