Weekly Update : 22nd May 2023

Greg Dyke Visits KBA

We were delighted to welcome Greg Dyke to the academy on Friday 19th May.

The businessman, journalist, and broadcaster is probably best known as having held the tile of the director general of the BBC but he has also been a board member at Manchester United FC and Chairman of Brentford FC.

Sixth Form questions attended a special ‘in person’ audience where they were able to ask questions to Mr Dyke. The event was chaired by our very own Mr Mba and students were keen to ask about topics ranging from the media to football to business and further education.

Public Examinations Update

We have been immensely proud of students who have been undertaking public examinations.

Year 6 students were focussed during their SATs and students in Year 11 and 13 have shown impeccable behaviour and concentration in GCSE, Advanced Level and BTEC examinations that have started to take place.

If your child is revising for upcoming exams please remember to support them through what is a very stressful period of their lives.

The mental health charity MIND have lots of useful guidance, advice and support on their website. This can be accessed here.

Meet North Northamptonshire’s SEND Team

North Northamptonshire’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Team offer support to schools and parents and carers so that they can help young people when they are experiencing difficulties in school and home life.

The SEND Team are holding meetings in June between 10:30am and 11:30am where parents and carers of students with SEND will be able to ask questions and seek support.

An Occupational Therapist will also be giving a 10 minute talk at the events. This talk will focus on identifying sensory self-regulation difficulties and providing tips for the home.

Talks will take place as below. To register for the events, or for more information, please contact: pamela.hobart@northnorthants.gov.uk

Votes For Schools

This week in Votes For Schools students will explore extreme ideas and consider how these are persuasive to young people. Finally, they will analyse the ‘push’ and ‘pull’ factors that lead to extremism and radicalisation.
